The most important skill on a wheelchair basketball team,is teamwork.

Friday, April 23, 2004 marked the thirteenth year the fighting Illini
Wheelchair Basketball Team will take on local celebrity teams in the Options
Center for Independent Living's Wheelchair Basketball Game. The game is set
to begin at 6:30pm at the Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School.

All the proceeds of the event will be used for programs and services offered
by Options Center for Independent Living for people with disabilities in
Kankakee and Iroquois counties. Also, scholarships for students with
disabilities at the university of Illinois.

Using narrow, sport wheelchairs, players can make up to two pushes on their
wheels before they must dribble, shoot or pass the ball.

The game heavily depends on upper-body strength. Because the wheelchairs
eliminate much of the disparity in heights of players, smaller athletes can
still block larger competitors from getting near the basket. They are truly
athletes, they just happen to use wheelchairs.

Special halftime activities and a Corporate Challenge are planned as a part
of the fun! Participate in this slam-dunk family event by purchasing
advertising in the program booklet and buying tickets for the game. Tickets
are $7.00 for adults and $2.00 for youth under twelve years of age.
